(01) Explanation

What is Next.js?

Next.js is an open-source framework on top of React. It combines static generation, server-side rendering and server components in a single project. As a result, pages load fast and are easy to find, even when the content changes constantly or differs per visitor.

(04) Advice

When do you choose Next.js?

Choose Next.js when your website has a lot of dynamic content, or when a portal is publicly accessible and needs to be easy to find. For a content website we choose Astro, for a portal behind a login React Router.

The trade-off

Next.js or React Router?

React Router is our standard for portals behind a login: light and predictable. We choose Next.js as soon as pages are public and findability counts, such as a platform where visitors come in via Google.
